In the English lesson for the second year of the Master’s degree, we started by the ethics of the journalism profession, with a focus on the ethical and professional responsibilities that guide journalists in their work. We also discussed the legal framework of journalism, and learning about the laws that regulate the profession.

Another important part of the lessons was the role of the English language in journalism and media institutions. We explored how English plays an important role, as this lesson was new to us, especially in new media, where it acts as a bridge for global communication and expands the reach of media institutions.

In addition, we revisited some historical aspects of journalism that we had covered in previous years. This helped us better understand how journalism has evolved and the principles that remain essential to the profession.

Later in the course, we moved on to writing articles. We learned how to create attractive titles and engaging hooks, focusing on the “introduction” or the opening paragraph to grab the reader’s attention. In class, we practiced writing feature articles and examined the main differences between feature writing and traditional news reports. My topic was about fighting fake news. These exercises helped us understand how feature stories allow for more creativity and depth in storytelling compared to straightforward information.

We also answered questions about each topic directly after the lesson to reinforce the idea.
